Our History

At the end of World War II, Gilbert Yates returned to his profession as a funeral director in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho after serving overseas with the U.S. Navy. He founded our funeral home operation in 1952 at its present location on 4th Street. We remodeled and enlarged this facility in 1971 when Dexter Yates returned from college and a tour of duty in the Navy to join his father in the family business. We opened a second funeral home in Hayden Lake in 1978 and extensively remodeled it in 1996 to accommodate the need for gatherings and receptions. Eli Yates graduated from college in 2000 and joined his father and grandfather to establish our third generation of continuous family ownership.

As an independent family owned company, we are recognized by our professional quality of service, our finer facilities, our hospitality and a family tradition of caring dedicated to fulfilling the needs and wishes of every client. We also pride ourselves in our technical and professional abilities, particularly in difficult or unusual circumstances. Families and friends often remind us that these abilities have been a source of great comfort to them.

We want you to know that the Yates family and staff are sincerely committed to helping your family members and loved ones with compassion and flexibility during these most difficult times.
